Hollow. My coaching soul feels empty. A member of my team found a great new opportunity. I couldn't be happier for them. It was a good fit. In their role in our company, it wasn't as good of a fit. The best case scenario is that what happened today. It is a win-win, even with some short term pain. That is what you are supposed to say as a leader. What very seldom gets said is how it feels. I love to coach. I love to play to win. Today I didn't win. Even when it ends well, it ends. And the end feels like a loss. Loss feels hollow. I am not soliciting sympathy. This is the price you pay when you commit to being a coach. Not every situation will thrive. Everyone will benefit and grow. I am certain of that.
