I am reading that you dont have to use Resy to get the credit. As long as the restaurant is in the Resy list you can make a purchase with your Amex directly at the restaurant. So you can buy gift cards also: https://thepointsguy.com/credit-card...x-resy-credit/
Yes, in links posted upthread it was already confirmed that you only need to use the Amex to pay at the Resy restaurant to get the credit. It would be great if you can buy a $50 gc in one half the year and then use that plus the other $50 credit in the second half of the year for a nice meal that hopefully won't cost too much more than $100.

From the other thread, I think gift card purchases at participating restaurants qualifies.
I've seeded a wiki, but haven't scanned closely to see if I missed any details; corrections/additions welcome (wikis are a community-maintained resource and anyone with 90+ days on FT and 90+ posts can edit!)

It will be interesting to see if you can reload the Dunkin app and get the credit. I rarely go to Dunkin but I'll go occasionally if I build up enough in the app.
It says on the website that purchases through the app count. I will go ahead and test for everyone.

That's what I'm planning to do. I don't know if all restaurants on Resy that sell gift cards online will trigger the credit, but I know this one works:
https://www.haihaimpls.com/shop
I've been buying $10.00 gift cards monthly for $12.00 ($10 + $2.00 handling fee) to use my Delta Platinum credit. This week I'm planning to buy a $50.00 gift card ($50 + $2.00) to utilize by new Gold card credit.

Not hard at all. $50k plus in airline tix per year = over $5k worth of MR points. Recently saved about $4k on IAP fare NH SEA-BKK (2 tickets @$2k savings each). Around 10 FHR bookings per year, which are worth at least $200 per stay (and sometimes considerably more). Hertz 25% discount on Platinum rate another $1-2k per year. This doesn't even count the lounge access (which we use at least a half dozen times per year) or various other credits.

No Dunkin', 5 Guys or resy locations in my immediate area but then there were no Shake Shacks either so not much of a benefit for me. $250 was bearable for the Uber credit and 4x points but at $325 maybe not so much.

PNW holders pretty much lose out on this since there's no Dunkin's anywhere; plus one can count the number of restaurants in Seattle and Portland easily.

Did you ever try any pickup orders through Grubhub?
Since Amazon started including Grubhub Plus with all PRIME memberships, this benefit has improved marginally for me, though I could also probably dump this card.
I am one of the few that can manage just fine on the $500 monthly limit of the Citi Custom Cash, of which I have two, so it's easy to get 5X on groceries and restaurant spend.

Ok, at that level of travel booked in cash $$$$ I can see the value and definitely can't compete with that level. Majority of our travel is booked using our stash of points currencies and we seldom pay out of pocket so while the 5x multiplier is nice for when we do and even for taxes on awards I can't claim it benefits me in the thousands range.
I was thinking more in terms of the coupon benefits and couldn't see how one can get into the thousands for savings. Thanks for the enlightenment :).

The Shake Shack credit can be used at grubhub too.

This works for me, so long as I don't need to make a reservation through Resy. Actually much better than the monthly coupon book nonsense. We typically dine at one of the local places a couple of times a year...(though almost none of the dozens in the city of SF). I gather we will have to "sign up" on the Amex site as you do for most of the perks, which is more nonsense but hopefully only 1-time.
PS you won't get a meal for 2 at any of our local Resy places for <$100. But $50 = $50 so long as you planned to dine there anyway.

I have the same problem/concern, and I have set up my P2 with a few cards that don’t require either of us to track stuff or worry about what card to use. Basically, the only P2 “coupon” I need to track is the AS companion cert. ***
My current (mental) focus is on using and getting good value out of my existing account balances. Over the last few years, my points earnings have exceeded my points expenses (for various reasons), and that is changing this year.
LOL - I forgot to add the two AS $99 certs to that list - of course airlines & hotels are a whole 'nother game where I have to track the Amex Plat airline credits, the free hotel nights, the $150 DL Amex Gold biz annual hotel credit, etc. At this point it has become too much of a PITA to track everything which is why I continue to cancel AF cards unless they offer something significant.
And yes I need to find a way to work down a 7-figure balance in Amex - probably have to sign up for points.me and add a couple of bucket list trips.

The value prop for this card will really only pencil if you're a heavy user of the 4x points categories. Otherwise you have to really work at earning marginal monthly credits to get even close to the new $325 AF.
Agreed. As I noted above, there is literally no reason to pay a high AF unless you value the 4x dining and 4x groceries, and then you are really only talking about 1 extra point as there are plenty of Chase and Citi cards that offer 3x dining/groceries, with low or no AF. The only reason we have it was due to a downgrade from Amex Plat (no need for anyone to have multiple accounts after you get SUB) but will re-evaluate next year.

For sure Amex Plat is really valuable if you use FHR or just use a single 241 biz class airline booking (alas not available UA or AA). The 5x airline bonus is good but as with dining it's really a 2x bonus as many cards offer 3x points on travel. It is also less useful to those who have to use corp cards or direct billing for business travel.
For the rest of us the only reason to carry Amex Plat is for Amex lounge access which thankfully has improved since the new rules went into effect. In fact the Amex Plat lounge access has become more valuable to me now that I am flying domestic economy on my own dime and occasionally on DL.

I'm confused. Do you not dine out? Most restaurants I go to are on Resy. If you have trouble spending $50 at a Resy restaurant, does it make sense to have the Gold?

No I actually don't dine out often, it's a special occasion thing a couple of times sprinkled throughout the year. I won't have that much trouble doing one or two of those times at a Resy restaurant, but if I can do the strategy I mentioned above of a $50 gc and then go once for $100 credit that works best for me. I'm not saying everyone has to do that.
I have had the Gold card well before the Resy credit came out today and it made sense for me to have it just for the 4x on groceries (which we pretty much max out) and 4x on uber eats, postmates, grubub which all code as dining. Throw in the the $120@ at uber and grubhub and it's a generous net positive. So I'm confused as to why you think that it only makes sense to have the Gold card if one can utilize the Resy credit ? The Resy credit is going to be another bonus for me to offset the higher AF when I get to use it.
airshane | Jul 25, 2024 4:14 pm |
My favorite place in town is on Resy and I go a few times a year, so that's a nice perk, so I'm gonna look at it at a free $25 in total I guess ($75 increase, $100 in benefits; if I'm matching correctly). Wondering if the Dunkin' credit would work in the app. Honestly I struggle with the uber credit and find myself at the end of the month figuring out where I can pick up an Uber Eats order at (Sorry, not paying nearly $10 to deliver popeyes to my house). Wish those credits rolled over. If I could reload the $7 every month, then I wouldn't need to add a dunkin' run. Might be buried in the T&C but would two $3.50 charges also work, or would I need at least $7 in spend for it to hit? Overall I'm not upset at the changes, but I'm not excited either.

Yes, you do need to enroll one time and enrollment is already live on the website and app.
